Hi, I’m Emilie.
Whew, this is a little like a first date, isn’t it? How about some ice breakers? 5 wedding fun facts about me:
• I met my husband in Las Vegas. Fortunately what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there, right?!
• We had a destination wedding on the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. (Need destination wedding planning tips? I can help!)
• I’m a pescatarian. If you’re having a pig roast, I’m probably not the photographer for you.
• My all-time favorite wedding reception song is Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” no matter the season. (My least favorite is “Love Shack”)
• After 13 years in weddings, you’ll likely still catch me tearing up behind my camera during your processional.
As a photojournalist and picture editor for USA Today and The Washington Post, I flew aboard presidential airplanes, documented the first 24 hours of a new Miss America’s reign, and photographed the head of the CIA. The details of that last assignment are top secret, but, if you ask, I will gladly share what happened when I photographed Oprah.
I was first captivated by photography as the editor for my high school yearbook in Hollis, NH, and went on to earn a photojournalism degree at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University (go Orange!) where I was the photo editor for the daily newspaper. I learned about sports photographing from the sidelines and spent a semester studying with a National Geographic photographer in London (lucky me!).
In 2001, my path completely shifted after photographing my cousin’s wedding in Maine. It was so inspiring and fulfilling to document such a momentous rite of passage (combined with the picturesque backdrop of seagulls and salty ocean air). I knew I had to open my own wedding photography studio and did, in 2003. Today, emilie inc. is my life’s work, a calling that blends my photojournalistic roots with my passion for entrepreneurialism (obvious since childhood when I played office, complete with a Rolodex of imaginary clients.)
My greatest achievement, however, is being a mom to Will and Clara June with my husband J and our beloved white lab rescue Dakota. I love Portland’s food and arts scene, adventures (big or small) with my family, and visiting Lake Winnipesaukee where I grew up spending my summers at the foothills of the White Mountains in Wolfeboro.
OK, now it’s your turn. Tell me your story and I’ll help you document this fun, emotional, extraordinary time as you set out on the adventure of married life.
I’ve been featured in a number of press outlets, but my most important honor is being on the walls of my couples’ homes.
