Sarah & Sam
There was no wedding party.
There were no cell phones or cameras allowed at the ceremony.
There were no formal introductions into the reception.
There wasn’t a first dance.
There weren’t any parent dances.
There wasn’t a cake and therefore no cake cutting.
There was no fuss.
There was a little rain.
There was very good food.
There were big wigs.
And there was a whole lotta love.
Sarah and Sam pulled it back — way back — and stripped out some of the traditions to really, truly make their wedding day a reflection of who they are and how they wanted to celebrate their union at the Barn at Flanagan Farm in Buxton.
Their friend (and former roommate) Sandy officiated a hilarious and heartfelt ceremony in between rain drops, finishing with a group toast before the newlyweds’ first kiss. Guests lingered on the grand lawn delighting in the experience of fresh sushi from Miyake, oysters and local brews while we assembled some group photos of those near and dear. Then planner Lani Toscano invited everyone inside for a family-style dinner and toasts from the parents.
Gelato Fiasco and cookies from Tandem Bakery gave everyone a bit of a sugar rush to hit the dance floor to the big-haired funk band Motor Booty Affair (who Sarah and Sam knew from their days at Colby College). Our Mr. and Mrs. later joined in the costumed fun with a surprise sequin outfit change that took the set’s fun-factor up a few notches.
Sarah and Sam, you two — and this day — were a breath of fresh air. Thank you for reminding me why capturing the union of two people in love can follow any form. 13 years in and I’m still being surprised! Cheers to kicking off another great season!
