Wedding Inspo: Rustic outdoor vibes on the Southern Coast of Maine. A relaxed, end-of-summer bash with great food, great people and fun music. There’s a subtle herb garden theme running through the event within the small details: seed paper escort cards, herb table numbers, as well as a little herb flair in the flowers, food & dessert.

How We Met: We met in college in Boston, where I went to BU and he went to Berklee College of Music. My first impression of Gabe was that he was cute & handsome, but so quiet and shy. I was convinced he found me super annoying & overly talkative. I was also casually dating someone else! *oops hehe* The first time we met, it was at a party that I was invited to by the other guy I was dating who also happened to go to Berklee. Things weren’t really working out with that guy very well. A few days after the party, I went on this weird date with the guy at a local burger place and then he left awkwardly early– imagine my surprise to find Gabe arriving in his place shortly after! I remember thinking to myself it was a funny coincidence…I found out later it was not a coincidence at all. Gabe bumped into my fleeing date and decided to swoop in, although he was still too shy to really make a move then. Later that night, he texted me to inquire about whether that other guy still had “dibs” on me. I told him I was not a slice of cake, therefore nobody can be calling ‘dibs’. He replied, saying, “Of course, but if you were a slice of cake, what flavor would you be?” and I thought that was lovely and clever, so I replied, “Funfetti, you?” His choice: “Strawberry Shortcake.” And now we’re here! (P.S. In honor of this story, we’re having strawberry shortcakes and funfetti cake at the rehearsal dinner/Gabe’s birthday celebration on Friday)

Engagement Story: Best day ever! Such a big surprise! It was even featured on Inside Edition if you want to google it ;)– but I’ll tell you the real version, not the “hollywood” version (which makes us sound like crazy koala people). We got engaged in Dec. 2015 in Wollongong, Australia at the Symbio Wildlife Park. Nerd alert: I love to watch cute animal videos on the internet. One of my favorite video series is from the wildlife park about their hand-reared koala, Imogen. She fit in a Pyrex measuring cup at the time, she was so small! When we found out we were Sydney for a cousins’ wedding, I looked up the park and it was only a 45 min drive from where we were staying! I had no idea Gabe was planning to propose on this trip, but he thought it would be an awesome proposal opportunity.
The only snag: Imogen has a multiple year long waiting list. Luckily he was able to pull some strings with the park– the minute he mentioned a proposal, the woman running the concession stand went to speak with the owner — all while I was completely distracted by all the cute animals! He told me that there was a *tiny* chance we could sneak into the end of another group’s koala experience if we went by the enclosure around 2pm. The zookeeper and another man were inside the enclosure taking photos and raking the leaves when we stopped by. They casually asked us “Oh did you want to come in and meet the koalas? We’ve just ended a showing, come on into the pen”. Of course I was ecstatic!! They held the koala out to me and said “Give her a little scratch around her neck, she loves that,” and at that moment, I noticed a silver ribbon tied around her. But then upon closer inspection…there was the ring!! He untied the ribbon, got down on one knee and proposed. I’m glad there’s a video of me saying yes because I truly went blank in that moment– too exciting, too cute, too much emotion! Anyway, best day ever because after he proposed we got to hang out with the koalas, then celebrate with our Aussie family back in Sydney.
